In most of the mines, the coal which is mined is of the sub bituminous type. The problem with this type of coal is that the percentage of moisture in this coal is on the higher side. Due to this, up-to 8% to 10% of the energy is lost. In order to make this coal more efficient, it undergoes a drying process.

How does a coal drying machine work?

1. After the untreated coal is feed into the machine, hot gas is passed through it to initiate the drying process. The quantity of coal which is to be inserted in the machine is strictly controlled for the drying process to take place properly. This volume is decided by the diameter of the drum dryer in which the coal is filled.
2. Along with the moisture, any particulate contaminants which are fed into the coal drying machine are also eliminated due to the hot gas which is blowing through the cylinder.
3. Due to the immensely high temperature of the gases which are passed through the cylindrical structure, the process gets completed pretty quickly and due to the fact, that the size of the cylinder is also pretty huge, you can be sure that each machine is capable of treating significant quantity of coal each and every single day.
4. After coal is treated and dried, you can be sure that there would be no loss of energy because the contaminants as well as the moisture content would be entirely removed. This would lead to more energy being produces by burning the coal.
